Helen Smyth is an experienced counsellor in the gambling harm and AOD sectors. Working for UnitingCare and based in Cairns, she has extensive experience of First Nations, CALD and local communities providing a range of services including individual counselling, non-clinical group counselling, industry-specific training and working closely with vulnerable disadvantaged remote communities to build capacity and resources. Helen has a special interest in reducing stigma for people experiencing gambling harm and promoting more opportunities for lived experience peer workers in the behavioural addiction help sector. After ten years in the sector, she is extending her considerable knowledge through studying a Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Deakin University.
