Leila McDougall is an award-winning filmmaker, rural advocate, and creator of the internationally acclaimed feature film Just a Farmer. Her work has become one of Australia’s most significant grassroots community impact campaigns, using storytelling to spark conversations around mental health, resilience, and connection. Through more than 130 community screenings across regional Australia, Leila has helped bring thousands of people together to strengthen local support networks. A Beyond Blue Rural Ambassador and 2026 Victorian Australian of the Year nominee, she lives on a sheep and cattle farm in Tatyoon, Victoria, with her husband and two children, where she remains deeply connected to rural life.
