Gurumba Bigi Gathering

Connecting Through Culture & Country Cultural Day

Sunday 19 October

As part of our commitment to Indigenous wellbeing and holistic healing, we invite all delegates and their guests to join us at the Gurumba Bigi Gathering and participate in one of four immersive cultural activities.

These experiences are led by skilled Indigenous artists and knowledge holders and are designed to nurture connection, creativity, and cultural appreciation.

Following the activities, we invite you to join us for a networking function at a local venue.

Date: Sunday 19 October
Time: 2pm – 5:30pm
Location: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre
Cost: $125pp (includes 90-minute activity and networking function)

Choose from four activities:

Interactive Coconut Leaf Weaving Workshop

Foster hands-on learning and cultural appreciation with the Torres Strait Islander traditional practice of coconut leaf weaving. This meditative, hands-on activity connects you with ancient cultural knowledge while creating something meaningful to take home.

Interactive Basket Weaving Workshop

Experience the deep cultural significance of basket weaving in this guided workshop with recognised Aboriginal weaver, Aunty Erica. Learn age-old techniques, hear the stories behind the fibres, and enjoy a shared space of creativity and cultural storytelling.

Group Art Therapy Workshop – Gratitude Rock Art

Explore healing through creativity in this hands-on, culturally sensitive art therapy session. Create your own "gratitude rock" embedded with personal intention, reflection, or healing messages. The rocks may be dot painted, symbolically etched, or decorated with culturally respectful motifs. Each participant will take home their piece, carrying with them the energy of the shared cultural space.

Cultural Precinct & Kurilpa Bridge Walking Tour

Experience Brisbane with an Aboriginal guide who will immerse you in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture on a tour around Southbank’s Cultural Precinct. Explore one of the largest and most exciting collections of First Nations public artworks and discover some hidden gems as you make your way to Kurilpa point.
