Joseph Tyro is a respected Indigenous Māori leader in Iwi, health, social services, and governance, driven by a lifelong commitment to whānau and community wellbeing. Inspired by supporting his grandmother through her cancer journey as a child, he began his career as a youth worker and progressed through social work, allied health, community and clinical leadership, academia, and executive leadership. Today, Joseph serves as Chairperson of Te Hāpu o Ngāti Wheke and Kaihautū Tuarua (General Manager) of the health arm of his Iwi, Ngāi Tahu, championing Māori-led solutions and Indigenous wellbeing across his community.
