Melissa is a proud Pitjantjatjara woman committed to advancing equity, cultural safety, and self-determination for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
With professional experience spanning both the Justice/legal sector and Medical Education Accreditation, Melissa has developed a strong background in governance, standards, assessment and accreditation processes. She has worked to strengthen accountability within institutions and to support approaches that recognise and respect Indigenous perspectives and community priorities.
Currently working at the Australian Medical Council, Melissa contributes to embedding cultural safety within medical school’s accreditation. Her work supports the integration of culturally safe practices across accreditation standards and processes, helping to ensure that future medical practitioners are trained in ways that recognise and respond to the needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Driven by a deep commitment to her community, she advocates for systems change that centres Indigenous voices, knowledge, and leadership. Her work reflects a belief that culturally safe education and strong institutional accountability are essential to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
