Selina Walker
Selina Walker is a proud Ngunnawal woman and emerging Elder living on her ancestral Country in Canberra. She is the granddaughter of the late Senior Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM and continues her grandmother’s legacy through cultural leadership, advocacy, and community care.
Selina is the proud granddaughter of Senior Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, who sadly passed in March 2023.
Selina has been working in the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and surrounding regions for over 20 years in various roles and has experience in child protection, youth justice, homelessness, and Aboriginal family support.
Selina is a founding member and Chair of Yerrabi Yurwang Child and Family Aboriginal Corporation. Her work focuses on improving outcomes for Aboriginal children in care and supporting strong kinship and cultural connections. She also serves as Co-Chair of the ACT Reconciliation Council.
Selina has kincare of 3 Godsons and 5 little cousins, plus one of their girlfriends totally 9 teenagers all together. Selina also supports her two other godsons in Foster Care and provides respite for other children in out of home care in the community.
In 2017 Selina was recognised for her efforts as a carer and was named the ACT Barnardos Mother of the Year and was more recently awarded the 2024 ACT Australian of the Year Local Hero.

But more recently taken over her grandmother’s cultural obligations and continuing her work here in the ACT and surrounding regions striving for equity and better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the spirit of Reconciliation.
Selina is a strong advocate for young people, preparing our future leaders and a proud Aboriginal artist. Selina has a passion and drive for mental health, suicide prevention and awareness following the deaths of six family members and have started studying Psychology at University of Canberra.
Selina loves Rugby League, and her Manly Seas Eagles all the way and QLD Maroons and enjoy being involved in my god children’s sports and watching them thrive.
