Jacinta Ryan
Team Leader and Senior DFSV Lead, Directions Health Service NSW and ACT
I am deeply passionate about working in the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and Domestic and Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV), and broader community sectors, because this work is about people, dignity, harm minimisation, and real change. At the heart of it, my work is about walking alongside individuals and communities during some of the most challenging times in their lives. It’s about listening without judgment, building trust, and creating safe spaces where people feel seen, heard, and respected. Working within Aboriginal communities and with individuals ,I am passionate about supporting self-determination, acknowledging the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and ensuring cultural safety, autonomy and understanding is at the forefront of my team’s service delivery. In the AOD and DFSV spaces, I’m driven by the opportunity to support people through complex and often deeply personal challenges. These are areas where compassion and consistency can make a real difference. Whether it’s helping someone take their first step toward recovery or supporting someone to rebuild their life free from violence, even small progress can be life changing. I’m also passionate about advocacy. Many people in these sectors face systemic barriers—stigma, limited access to services, and intergenerational trauma. Being part of the community sector means not only supporting individuals, but also speaking up for better systems, better resources, and better outcomes.
