About this position

The Department of Psychiatry at Hawke's Bay Hospital have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer in Addiction Medicine / Addiction Psychiatry which includes the service Te Ara Manapou, pregnancy, and parenting support.

Mental health services in Hawke's Bay are centred around two large community teams, with a kaupapa Maori mental health service provided by an NGO partner and satellite teams in the smaller population centres. Within the service are Child and Family, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou, Consultation-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health teams, Older Persons and Addiction services.

  • Full-time (0.8 FTE - 1.0 FTE) permanent post available in a well-resourced integrated (addictions and mental health) multidisciplinary team
  • Small welcoming service (currently 20 Psychiatrists for 165,000 total population)

About Hawke's Bay - a great place for families

The in-patient unit is on the Regional Hospital campus in Hastings and features high and medium intensity treatment areas as well as an intensive day treatment unit. Local residential addictions treatment service is provided in Napier and an opioid-substitution programme is provided in both major population centres.

Mental health services work closely with primary care and NGO providers to create individual care packages for patients and some specialist services such as forensic care are provided on a regional basis.

Applicants must be qualified by the Medical Council and either a general scope with a specialty in addiction psychiatry or have a vocational scope of practice or working towards this.
