About this position
This is a permanent full-time position within the mental health and addictions service based at Nelson Hospital. Clinical services are delivered by a full multidisciplinary team including: Psychiatrists, Medical Officers, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Nurses and Social Workers.
You will provide addiction medicine services district wide to consumers with alcohol and drug dependency; particularly those with significant co-existing health disorders or opioid dependency. You will also contribute your addiction medicine expertise to the wider mental health team to develop the capacity of our services to provide quality treatment to individuals having both substance use disorders and other significant mental health disorders.
We are encouraging applications from a broad range of medical practitioners, with specialist training and experience in addictions practice, for this pivotal role supporting our integration programme.

The salary for this position will be the range of $164,369 - $244,260 (as per the current senior medical and dental officer collective agreement) dependent on skills, experience and gaining full vocational registration in NZ. You will also have access to up to 10 days CME Leave and a $16,000 allowance to put towards your continued medical education.

Who is an appropriate applicant?
You will be an experienced clinician with expertise in assessing and managing the medical complications of addictive disorders, and implementing a range of treatments in addiction environments.
You will have excellent relationship development and networking skills and you will build credibility with others by acting with integrity and developing and maintaining positive relationships.
You will have:
• Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or Royal NZ Australian College of Psychiatry (RANZCP), or an equivalent qualification eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council as a Psychiatrist.
• Current relevant APC and MPS.
