Gambling addiction: Lifeline is there to help

Gambling addiction: Lifeline is there to help

Today’s forms of gambling are far more sophisticated, with online apps meaning that you can literally gamble 24 hours a day, seven days a week – all from the comfort of your own home.

For most people, gambling is just another pastime; a social activity managed within a budget, and kept under control.

But for a small number of Australians gambling develops from a simple pastime or form of entertainment to a dangerous addiction.

And that addiction often comes with devastating effects, even suicide.

Is gambling a problem for you?

During October, Gambling Awareness Week placed a spotlight on this issue, trying to raise awareness of just how sinister and addictive this activity can become.

Our children are at risk, due to the explosion of on-line games which hold their attention and demand that they reach higher levels in order to maintain a “high.”

But help is available.

The hardest step can be firstly admitting that you have a problem with gambling, then reaching out for help.

Lifeline Central West has Gambling Help and Financial Counsellors who provide free and confidential counselling in a non-judgmental and supportive environment.

They can also help you understand and manage your gambling addiction, and start finding a way out of addiction.

Take the first step now and call 1300 798 258. We want to help.
